Due to its unique appearance, the property has numerous witnesses of its history. From the accounts of people connected with the house it is known that the building was built before 1909.
The exact date is unfortunately unknown. In 1909 Franz Haering purchased it and re-named it to "Villa Bertha".
In 1911, the building was sold to Mrs. Van Der Versen from Szklarska Poreba for 49,000 deutsche marks.
Ms. Versen ran the property as a 13-bedroom guesthouse with 3 alcoves, 2 kitchens, porches, balconies, bathrooms, a lounge and a garden. The guesthouse was open all year round.
Later (date unknown) the property was sold to Rosie and Isabella Duclaud, from whom it took over the name "Pension Duclaud."
From 1918 the ground floor of the building housed a post office.
Fun-fact: both of the original names of the building can be seen on its facade to this day.
